Hana Area

There are five beautiful beaches nearby for swimming, snorkeling, surfing, fishing, and beachcombing…

  1. Hamoa Beach is a haven of crystal blue water, soft sand, and rolling surf. There is an outdoor shower and bathroom, lounge chairs and umbrellas for rent, and a snack bar.
  2. Neighboring Koki Beach is great for body and board surfing.
  3. Kaihalulu Beach, popularly known as Red Sand Beach has a unique rock formation that partially encircles a calmer pool of ocean water for the best snorkeling and a relaxing swim. The rare red sand is created by the nearby Red Cedar trees. The hike to this locale is well worth it. This beach is clothing optional.
  4. Waianapanapa Beach Park is a short drive away and has spectacular views, beautiful volcanic rock formations, a black sand beach, and many walking trails.
  5. Hana Bay Beach is easily accessible from the center of town and is where you will find the historic Hana Bay Pier. This bay is well-situated for calmer waters. Dolphins are often sighted here!

Whether you want to explore the coastline or jungle, there are excellent hiking trails through Haleakala National Park, or through Maui’s largest underground lava tube system at Ka’eleku Caverns, through Kaumahina State Park, and even through the rolling hills around town.

You can also enjoy sea kayaking, horseback and bicycle riding, tennis, hang gliding, archeological excursions, and horticultural visits to the Keanae Arboretum or the Kahanu National Tropical Botanical Garden.

For spa services, elegant dining, and top quality entertainment, you are within walking distance of the luxurious Travaasa Hana in the town center. There are also highly recommended local massage therapists, fitness classes, and dance and yoga classes at the Hana Arts Center.

For your convenience there is the historic and famous Hasegawa General Store (groceries and ATM), Ono Organic fruit stand, Hana Fresh organic market (also serving prepared lunches), the Ranch Store and Cafe, other gift boutiques and galleries, a Chevron service station, a local post office, Hana Medical Center, seven churches, and various delicious local food trucks with grilled fish, great Thai food and many other ethnic foods.
